Wabash County Knows Agribusiness!
Wabash County is fertile ground for agribusiness. In a state where more than 80% of its land is farm, forest or woodlands, businesses can join an experienced network of companies that contribute to Indiana having the 10th largest total agricultural production of all the states in the country. Additionally, in 2020, Indiana ranked:
- 1st in commercial duck production, wood office furniture and kitchen cabinet manufacturing.
- 2nd in popcorn production, ice cream production, chickens, total eggs produced and cover crops.
- 3rd in spearmint and tomatoes.
- 4th in peppermint, pumpkin and turkeys raised.
- 5th in corn, soybeans, watermelon and hog production.
Wabash County itself is home to several thriving farms, including industrial-scale producers that distribute agricultural products throughout North America. Local smaller farms lead the growing farm-to-work movement and community-supported agriculture in Indiana, supplying meat and produce to fine dining restaurants throughout the state and to local consumers.
In addition to agricultural producers, the county is also home to several large and diversified agribusinesses, including:
Advanced Ag Resources, grows commercial grain and seed crops, operates a 75,000 square-foot seed distribution center and offers full service conditioning, blending and packaging of seeds.
Halderman Farm Management and Real Estate Services, founded in Wabash in 1930, is one of the largest family-owned professional farm management and real estate organizations in the United States.
Strauss Feeds, located in North Manchester, is one of the top five bovine milk replacer feed manufacturers in the country and provides private labeled products to the feed industry. It’s also one of the top producers of ethically raised veal.
Indiana is a state focused on helping agribusiness companies find success. For example, AgriNovus Indiana is an initiative to fuel growth in Indiana’s agbioscience economy. It actively assists the industry by developing a talent pipeline, removing obstacles to talent entrepreneurship and accelerating economic development.
