Celebrate Giving Tuesday with us this month, a day where people throughout Wabash County and communities throughout the world give back and donate to the causes that matter to them most. This annual global celebration encourages people everywhere to give, whether it be a monetary donation big or small, time spent volunteering, or some other way to help someone in need. This year, Giving Tuesday falls on November 29th.

Giving Tuesday inspires togetherness in Wabash County and all communities. It is an important reminder to take some time out of our busy lives to help those who really need it. Helping someone can range from first-hand efforts in spending time with someone suffering to making a contribution to a local charity.

Organizations and Charities In Wabash County

There are so many organizations and charities in Wabash County that are making a difference. These places can have a positive impact on children, animals, the environment, and even more. Many of these depend on both donations and volunteers to keep their operations up and running and to be able to deliver their services to the public.

Becky Arnett has been Executive Director of Wabash County Habitat for Humanity since June. Prior to that, she had been a Habitat partner and homeowner.

"Habitat for Humanity depends on donations from individuals and organizations to build homes in Wabash County,” Arnett said. “Participating in Giving Tuesday is a means for people who want to donate to a worthwhile cause.”

How Supporting Local Charities Benefits Our Community

Charities and nonprofits contribute greatly to both local economies across the U.S. and the overall national economy. These entities provided approximately 12.3 million jobs in 2016, which is equal to 10.2 percent of private sector employment in the U.S. and is now equal to employment in the manufacturing industry.

Local charities and nonprofits not only create jobs, but they also improve quality of life, whether it be directly assisting people and causes or strengthening Wabash County’s sense of community. They help make Wabash County a wonderful place to live as an individual or with a family. Supporting them will lead to children learning the importance of caring for others. Plus, every dollar that is donated to a Wabash County charity on Giving Tuesday helps the local economy as it is money that stays in the community.

“I think it is important for benefactors to know that their money stays here to help families within the communities in Wabash County," Arnett said.
