Heartland Career Center's Precision Agriculture Program students are learning in-demand skills, ready to start their agriculture career. From learning to pilot a drone of acres of farmland, collect data to optimize crop yields and install GPS technology on farming equipment to boost efficiency, students leave the program with the ability to start working immediately after graduation. This innovative, two-year program is shaping the next generation of agricultural leaders and meeting critical industry needs in Wabash County, IN.

As a test pilot location for precision agriculture education, Heartland Career Center continuously evolves to incorporate the latest advancements in the field. The program stays at the forefront of agricultural innovation, from drone-specific software to advanced crop management platforms. Its success has served as a model for similar initiatives in over 100 schools across Indiana.
One standout project involves students partnering with industry leaders to install GPS Autosteer technology on a lawnmower, transforming it into a precision tool for variable-rate applications. This hands-on experience showcases the innovative possibilities of precision agriculture and prepares students for the technological demands of modern farming.

The Precision Agriculture Program goes beyond traditional education by offering certifications that set students apart in the workforce. Graduates earn credentials like the FAA Part 107 Drone Certification, CDL Class A License, and Applicator License while earning dual credit through Vincennes University's Early College Program.
