Wabash County, IN – Destination Wabash County is partnering with leaders throughout Wabash County to organize a county-wide roadway and litter clean-up initiative in March 2026. This effort aims to bring together community leaders, organizations, and volunteers to make a visible impact on Wabash County’s roadways, and Republic Services has stepped up to sponsor the initiative.
The project idea began after a local group of volunteers cleaned up Hill Street-extended toward Lagro, sparking a larger conversation about how this kind of work could be expanded county-wide. “March is an ideal time to take action: grasses and weeds are still low, making litter easier to spot and collect,” said Amy Ford, the first to call for a collaborative effort to tackle roadside litter.
The Great March Cleanup will take place during the month of March, with each community rallying its own group of volunteers to tackle areas within Lagro, LaFontaine, North Manchester, Roann, Somerset, and Wabash.
“We are incredibly grateful to Republic Services for stepping up as our amazing title sponsor for this initiative,” said Christine Flohr, Executive Director of Visit Wabash County and Destination Wabash County. “Their support makes it possible to organize this large-scale effort, and together with our volunteers, we’ll make Wabash County shine. A clean community is something we can all celebrate and just in time for Earth Day!”
Following the clean-up, Destination Wabash County will highlight volunteer efforts during the week leading up to Earth Day in April 2026 through a series of media storylines and press releases.
Brooke Walden of Republic Services added, “At Republic Services, we believe in protecting our earth and strengthening our communities. This clean-up initiative is a powerful way to bring people together, make a difference for our environment, and create a cleaner, healthier future for everyone in Wabash County.”
Destination Wabash County is inviting community leaders and residents to help identify public roadways most in need of attention.
