Wabash, In. – As we kick off the new year, the Wabash County Museum invites the community to meet the Official Wabash County Historian, Alec Guenin, appointed by the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau.
Alec is serving the second year of his three-year term from 2025–2027 as the county’s historian. Indiana County Historians are volunteers officially appointed by the Indiana Historical Society (IHS) and the Indiana Historical Bureau (IHB) to promote local history within their counties, connect individuals and organizations with historical resources, encourage collaboration among local history groups, and maintain active connections with statewide historical institutions.
Alec has been a full-time employee of the Wabash County Museum since August 2022 and is an avid researcher of Wabash County history. He completed archival internships as both an undergraduate student at IPFW (History) and as a graduate student at IUPUI (Library & Information Sciences). In addition to his work at the Museum, Alec serves as president of the LaFontaine History Club and vice president of the Paradise Spring Historical Park Board. He also authors the Museum’s monthly newsletter, Second-Hand Stories, which explores unique and often overlooked stories from Wabash County’s past.
As part of his work to share Wabash County’s history in engaging and accessible ways, the Museum has launched a new TikTok series titled “Ask Alec.” Through this series, Alec visits locations across Wabash County to highlight the history behind familiar landmarks and places, bringing local history directly into the community.
“Alec represents a new generation of historians who are bringing rigorous research together with public engagement,” says Teresa Galley, Executive Director of the Wabash County Museum.
In recognition of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, the Wabash County Museum plans to celebrate this historic milestone by highlighting Alec Guenin, the Official Wabash County Historian, as well as sharing the work of other local historians and history advocates through a special social media series throughout the year. This initiative will showcase the many voices contributing to the preservation and interpretation of Wabash County’s history.
Community members seeking information about Wabash County history may contact Alec Guenin, Official Wabash County Historian, by email at aguenin@wabashmuseum.org, by phone at 260.563.9070, or through the Research Request section of the Museum’s website.
